PTA JOB DESCRIPTIONS 2010 - 2011

FUNDRAISING
- Annual Fund: responsible for a membership drive held at the beginning of the school year starting with the first PTA meeting. Our goal is to reach 100% participation of families and faculty members. This committee is responsible for designing and executing the campaign, receiving funds, following through with corporate matching gifts and writing thank you notes and distributing decals to all contributors.
- Auction: responsible for organizing one of Brandon’s largest fund-raisers held every other year. The committee must confirm an off-campus location, secure sponsorships and donations, create and print an invitation, create and publish a catalog of auction items, decorate the location, and organize check-out.
- Bingo Night: organize and implement two bingo night fundraisers, one in the fall and one in the spring. This will involve communicating the dates of the events, handling registration, serving as emcees, and securing equipment, refreshments and prizes.
- Book Fair : assist the Book Fair co-chairs in coordinating the fall and spring book fairs. Chair-elects will then accept the responsibility of chairing the Book Fair the following year.
- Brandon Bee Jamboree : assist the Jamboree co-chairs in planning this family day in the fall, which offers games, food, fun and entertainment for the entire Brandon community.
- Brandon Dinner Nights: responsible for coordinating fundraising efforts with various restaurants in the community, asking them to hold various “Brandon Dinner Nights” throughout the year. Brandon will receive a portion of their proceeds those nights.
- Corporate Sponsorships: responsible for securing corporate sponsors at different levels for the school year. Sponsors are recognized in the directory, on the website, on event T-shirts, on event signage and in Auction and Jamboree materials.
- Fun Run Elect: assist the Fun Run co-chairs in coordinating this one-mile fun run in the spring. Chair-elects then accept the responsibility of chairing the Fun Run the following year.
- Gift Wrap : assist the Gift Wrap co-chairs in handling one of Brandon’s largest fundraisers at the beginning of the school year, the Sally Foster Gift Wrap sale.
- Read-A-Thon : assist the Read-A-Thon co-chairs in organizing and implementing Brandon’s newest fundraiser in January/February. This job involves promoting the event, recruiting and managing parent volunteers, preparing and distributing student packets, securing prizes, creating incentives, developing partnerships, such as the Atlanta Hawks, and implementing theme days. Chair-elects then accept the responsibility of chairing the Read-A-Thon the following year.
- Tree Sale: assist the Tree Sale co-chairs in coordinating the sale of trees, wreaths and other holiday items in early December. Chair-elects then accept the responsibility of chairing the Tree Sale the following year.
COMMUNITY
- Bee Green : works with the teachers and administration to coordinate and implement our school’s environmental-friendly efforts, such as the recycling and no idling programs.
- Business Partnership: develop and maintain business partnerships with local establishments. Includes coordinating all committee requests for in-kind donations from partners.
- Community Service - Roots and Shoots : selects and coordinates school-wide community projects throughout the year. This is Brandon’s opportunity to reach out and give back to our community.
- Jump Rope for Heart : works with the Brandon P.E. teacher and PE Liaisons to plan this February fundraiser for the American Heart Association.
- Junior Achievement Committee: coordinates a parent for each classroom to teach Junior Achievement and distribute Junior Achievement materials.
- Legislative Liaison: monitors State legislation that would impact education, and acts as a liaison with the Statewide PTA legislative official and lawmakers.
- Prospective Parents : responsible for:
- Planning and hosting two events (spring and fall) for prospective Kindergarten students and parents (our Kindergarten Ice Cream Social and our Kindergarten Coffee),
- Coordinating and directing tours of the school for parents of prospective Brandon students, and
- Providing prospective parents with packets of information regarding various school policies, procedures and PTA information.
This committee chair will work closely with the administration to make certain the needs of our prospective parents/students are met.
- Public Relations : coordinates publicity in local media and updates promotional brochures and flyers.
- Sutton Liaison : responsible for publicity of Sutton Middle School events and programs to Brandon students and parents.
IN-HOUSE COMMUNICATIONS/EVENTS
- Dads Committee : organize the annual Dads Golf Tournament and Dads Breakfast. (Should you wish to only chair one of these events, please feel free to volunteer for the Golf Tournament or Dads Breakfast separately.)
- Directory : prepare, publish and distribute the school directory, which is issued in September. Computer/technology skills are a must.
- E Parents : coordinate and address technology issues throughout the school.
- Field Day : work with the PE teacher and PE Liaison to coordinate the opening ceremonies and field day activities, which are held in May.
- Historian : photograph and document all school events by compiling a scrapbook for the year.
- Logo Items : coordinate the sale of Morris Brandon logo items.
- Walk to School Day : work with the PE teacher and PE Liaison to coordinate Walk to School Days in the fall and spring.
- Watchdog Dads Chair: responsible for organizing and implementing the Watchdog Dad program throughout the school year and for working with the Dads Committee chairs (see below).
- Yearbook : assist with school picture days (fall & spring) and with the fund raising for and publishing of the annual yearbook.
OPERATIONS
- Art Liaison: work with the art teacher to display students’ artwork and assist the art teacher as needed.
- Attendance Recognition Committee : work closely with the Principal to coordinate attendance recognition awards.
- Carpool Committee : work with the administration to coordinate carpool, which includes organizing carpool at the end of the 2009-2010 school year for the following school year. This person will also attend the Celebration of Learning to provide carpool numbers to families and to answer any questions relating to carpool. This person also works closely with the Safety Committee, and assists parents and faculty to ensure the first few weeks of carpool run smoothly.
- Challenge Committee: work with the Challenge teachers to coordinate various Challenge activities.
- Copy Committee: assist teachers with their weekly copying needs.
- Fifth Grade Committee: work with the fifth grade teachers and a committee of parents to coordinate many special activities and fundraisers during the exciting fifth grade year.
- Grounds/Field Committee : coordinate the maintenance of the school grounds throughout the year for all areas, including the track and field and outdoor classroom.
- Health : work with the school nurse and assists her as needed.
- Hospitality : host the Holiday Coffee and end of the year luncheon for PTA Committee Chairs and coordinates and organizes refreshments for all general PTA meetings and other school events as needed.
- Interiors : oversee the maintenance and appearance of the interior of the school throughout the year.
- International Baccalaureate Committee : work with the IB coordinator to help facilitate the IB program.
- Kindergarten Committee : work closely with the Kindergarten teachers and room parents to plan and organize activities and events throughout the year.
- Lost and Found : oversee the lost and found and distribute labeled found items to the teachers.
- Media Center Committee: coordinate volunteers for assistance in the school’s media center.
- Morning Parent Committee: coordinate volunteers to track changes in student transportation, record tardy arrivals and monitor the front lobby in the morning.
- Parent Tutor Committee: work with the administration and teachers to provide parent tutors for 3rd – 5th grade students, as needed.
- PE Committee: work with the PE teacher to help coordinate Jump Rope team practices and work with the chairs of Field Day, Jump Rope for Heart and Walk to School Day.
- Primary Center Committee: serve as the parent liaison for the Primary Center, working closely with the Primary Center Program Administrator and the Principal to ensure good communication between the Primary Center and Main Campus.
- Room Parent : coordinate the distribution of information to class parents regarding school events and other activities.
- Safety : monitor and address safety issues, which may include street safety, crosswalks and working with the school policemen.
- School Supplies : responsible for ordering school supplies for the upcoming year and coordinating the sale of school supplies at the Celebration of Learning.
- Special Services Committee: responsible for assisting parents with children who require special accommodation by the school (Speech Therapy, Occupational Therapy, Special Education, ESOL, and Challenge) in their interaction with the school system.
- Student Recognition Committee: work with the principal to coordinate student recognition for achievement both inside and outside of the school.
- Teacher/Staff Appreciation Committee: recognize teachers and staff throughout the year by planning teacher luncheons and recognizing birthdays. The first luncheon is during preplanning the week before school (usually catered sandwiches).
- Teacher Workroom/Teacher Supplies Committee: keep the teacher workroom organized and keep the teachers supplied with basic necessities throughout the school year.
- Wellness Committee work closely with the PE teacher and others to help promote wellness issues.
- Finance Committee a panel of parents and teachers who help prioritize and plan how to best spend PTA funds. This working committee collects ideas from parents, teachers, and the principal, researches those ideas and implements them. Prior involvement at Brandon is a must.
- Celebration of Learning Committee: organize the back-to-school Open House, when parents come with their students to pick up school supplies (ordered and organized by the School Supply Committee), sign up for volunteer jobs, meet their teacher and see the classroom before school starts. Typically, the Celebration of Learning is held the Friday before school begins.
- Brandon Bee Committee: responsible for accepting articles for the weekly school newsletter and then compiling those articles to be published on the school website. The Editor will work closely with the Principal and PTA Co-Presidents to edit the newsletter before publishing it to the website. The Editor will also work closely with the Newsletter Distributor to coordinate the distribution of hard copies of the Bee to those who require hard copies. Computer skills are a must.
