Welcome to the Fall 2011 Read-A-Thon! Morris Brandon’s 3rd annual Read-A-Thon begins November 3rd and runs until November 14th. Read-A-Thon is a great opportunity to focus on reading and encourage good reading habits; it is also an important fundraiser. Last year, Read-A-Thon raised almost $30,000 for the PTA. Let’s continue the tradition and reach this year’s goal of raising $40,000!
Important Information about Read-A-Thon:
- This booklet contains everything you will need to participate. Please read and sign the Pledge and bring your booklet to school everyday.
- A sponsor sheet is located in the booklet. Anyone may sponsor a student at whatever level desired.
- Your child should begin reading on November 3rd and complete reading November 14th. Encourage reading! Children should read books appropriate to their grade and AR level. Read aloud to your child or take turns reading. Children should record completed books on the log sheet found in this booklet.
- Book credits awarded will be based on the number of pages in each completed book. Books that are read to children IN CLASS are tracked on a classroom log and will be added to each student’s individual tally by their class representative.
- Visiting the public library helps children understand the amazing variety of books available. Therefore, Read-A-Thon encourages children to visit their local library and apply for a library card. While at the library, encourage your child to select books from various genres including fiction, non-fiction, poetry, and biographies. Students who have a public library card will receive an additional book credit.
- Class Representatives will help tally the final book credit counts. Sponsorship money is based on the final tally. Pledges should be collected and turned in by November 30th - after Thanksgiving break. Sponsors may either pay by check (payable to Morris Brandon PTA) or through PayPal.
